Repair cafe Bunnik

Founder of a local repair café

As a designer I believe products should be designed to be repaired and not destined to be disposable when breaking. Often repair manuals and spare parts are not available or repairing a product costs more than buying a new one.

In 2021, I launched a local Repair Café in Bunnik, the Netherland. I have assembled a team of volunteers (>20), with repair skills in all kinds of fields and hostess. In addition, I attained this local initiative in close collaboration with the town council and local library. A funding from the Bunnik aan Zet Fonds was available for tools, marketing and other early-stage activities.
Repair Café Bunnik strengthen social cohesion through repairing and supports a more sustainable society where repair expertise is cherished and passed on. Every month, visitors bring their broken items from home. Together with a repair expert they start making their repairs for free.
In addition to the regular repair events, Repair Café Bunnik is involved in other local projects encouraging sustainable living. For example, Repair Café Bunnik is committed to the Energy poverty project of the town council and Energie Coöperatie Bunnik.

🎤 I had the opportunity to contribute to events as a guest speaker, promoting the repair movement and inspiring others to adopt sustainability. Guest speaker at the International Repair Café Webinar 2023 organised by The Centre for Sustainable Design at University for the Creative Arts in the UK and Repair Café International Foundation. Guest speaker at the local sustainability market during the National Climate Week 2023 initiated by the town council and Energie Coöperatie Bunnik.

“Well organised, with an eye for detail and what a fantastic turnout! Congratulations to you as founder and your enthusiastic repair volunteers.
Advisory Committee | Bunnik Aanzet Fonds

“What a great initiative! Already one and a half year a resounding sustainable success thanks to Lin and all volunteers.”
